Speaking at the Japan Association of Travel Agents Forum 2013 in Tokyo, David Scowsill, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), told delegates that success for the Olympics will be defined by the legacy during the years after the event. “Japan’s opportunity is much greater that purely making the infrastructure investments needed. Any investment needs to support Japan post the event, which provides a perfect opportunity to focus on improving customer service for the influx of foreign tourists. This could be eliminating visa requirements or reducing the transit time from plane to hotel. Any improvements must be lasting for the domestic and international tourists of the future.”
“The future of Travel & Tourism in Japan looks extremely positive. The government’s goal of bringing the annual number of foreign tourists to 10 million seems to be moving closer to reality. The focus on the Olympics will certainly provide much greater interest for inbound tourists.”
